Making the Quilt Top Hi everyone. If you've stuck around for this third post - well done! Now we're ready to get into the nitty-gritty details of quilting. Let's start with the Pattern.  Some feedback from my previous posts has been for more photos/visual aids. I'm not the best at taking photos, but I will plan to add photos to these posts soon!  The Pattern I've drawn up a pattern that should be easy enough to follow even for beginner quilters. The finished quilt is 4.25 ft by 6.25 ft, which isn't a standard quilt size, but I think it works quite well as a single bed (twin) quilt.                                                                             A mock-up of the pattern Quilt patterns are often written using "blocks". Picking Fabric Hi everyone, and welcome to Part 2 of this introduction to quilting. In the previous post, I talked about quilting tools. As you get ready to start your quilt, you probably already know what kind of fabric you want to use for your quilt. You may want to use up scrap fabric already available at home or purchase all the fabric for the quilt, or perhaps you want to make a memory quilt - from old T-shirts, or other old clothes that have sentimental value. As you're deciding what you would like to use, you want to keep the following in mind.  Here are some of my tips on picking the right fabric.  Tip 1: Ideally, pick the quilt pattern BEFORE you star

Welcome New Quilters!

Hi everyone and welcome to quilting with me! This is Part 1 of a two-part introduction. A little bit about me: my name is Prarthana Dickson. I live in Delhi at the moment - trying to survive the COVID/lockdown situation in the best way possible! Engaged to a wonderful man, Phillip, and in a season of waiting while I am in Delhi. Quilting was something I stumbled upon in 2011, through a colleague of mine. From the beginning, I find I enjoy it immensely! For me, it is my place of quiet, where I can process through things while working on a task that uses my creative energy. Over the years, I have made one single bed quilt (plus some cushion covers to match that quilt), and I am currently working on a double-bed quilt; this is pretty new for me as well. Here's a little intro into quilting. Please do read through this!! A finished quilt is in three parts - the stitched quilt top (which is the decorative part), the back of the quilt, and sewing those two together with the ba
